Chateau Appony is a hotel with a touch of history and a precious baroque library, making it today the only stylish hotel of its kind in Slovakia. You can visit at any time of year, each season bringing its unique charm to the park and manor.
Between Nitra and Topoľčany, at the foot of the Tribeč Mountains, in the small village of Oponice, stands a Renaissance manor of the noble Apponyi family. For almost six centuries, it served as the residence of this prominent Hungarian noble family, famous not only for diplomacy but also for its rich family library. After an extensive renovation between 2007 and 2011, the manor regained its original appearance and the precious baroque library with 17,324 volumes was restored. Among them are works by Aristotle, Plato, Isaac Newton, Machiavelli, Galileo Galilei, Goethe, and other notable European authors in their original editions. Throughout history, the Apponyi residence has welcomed many distinguished guests, including a member of the Roosevelt dynasty, Josephine Baker, the Patiala Maharaja, and Thomas Cardeza – an American millionaire from Philadelphia who survived the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. The library pays tribute to these important figures.
Today, the manor operates as a four-star hotel, offering accommodation in 21 Comfort suites, 13 Junior suites, and 7 apartments. In total, it can accommodate 120 guests. The hotel complex also includes the Songe restaurant, a lobby bar, bowling facilities, and a wellness center. It is surrounded by a beautiful nine-hectare park with rare trees, dominated by magnificent clusters of Western plane trees and the umbrella-shaped form of the rare ginkgo. Since tennis has a long tradition here, two new tennis courts and a park pond were built on the site of the original court. The hotel is used for wedding receptions, birthday celebrations, corporate events, conferences, seminars, stylish events, and other social gatherings in beautiful and spacious halls (wedding hall, blue hall, private lounge).
